Do you think that the successful pop stars should really go for multitasking? Well, I don’t think so! There are loads of examples of such pop stars having really impressive and successful music career had to face an extreme downfall while attempted working in movies. It is quite obvious that a person can not have equal proficiency in every field, thus, when these pop singers want to utilize their already gained fame and glam to straightly enter into movies, the results are failures in most of the cases. Very few ones are successfully able to maintain the balance between two.

The list of such 5 top music celebrities who failed attempting multitasking is enlisted below.

Britney Spears

Well, who in this earth don’t like to swing with her fantastic music! She has been maintaining a magnificent music career for years; however, her move towards the big screen was not a wise decision. Britney’s debut film Crossroads was nominated as the worst film in the year 2002 by the UK’s Naftas Awards. Not only this, but she has also managed her worst actor and worst on screen couple nomination with Anson Mount.

Madonna:

While talking about top pop stars, who shouldn’t have tried multitasking, how can you forget Madonna’s name. She did around 20 films, out of which 15 are big flops. Whether it is the “Shanghai Surprise”, “Bloodhounds of Broadway” or “Vision Quest”, they all had got really bad ratings at the box offices.

Jessica Simpson:

Another name who attempted the same mistake is of Jessica Simpson. She has gone through a progressive deterioration in her film career. Her first movie “Daisy Duke” has done quite well at the box office. The reviews of her next film “Employee of the Month” were extremely poor followed by subsequent series of flops, which drowned her movie career to nowhere. The film “Private Valentine” was directly released to DVDs, thus, the ultimate fall.

Justin Timberlake:

Justin Timberlake has undoubtedly burnt the charts with his awesome music albums. He is one of the most popular pop singers known till date. However, if you compare his music success with his movie career, you will find a huge gap between the two. He is not as successful in movies as he is as a pop star. His film “Edison Force”, in spite of its huge and popular star cast was quite unable to make a mark in the audience chart and could not attract crowd towards it.

Mariah Carey:

Mariah Carey is one of the most successful pop sensations in today’s era. Her music albums are really adorable and liked by several people. However, her choice of acting in movie was not at al good. She had confronted a terrible breakdown due to the mental stress after her movie “Glitter” came out to be a disaster movie and has been harshly criticized as the worst movie of the decade.

Thus, it is very true that when someone tries to become the jack of all trades, he is more likely to fail. These pop stars should concentrate in the field in which they can excel with their real talents and must not try multitasking at all.

Jessica Alba is becoming a Focker.

The actress is in negotiations to join the Ben Stiller-Robert DeNiro comedy “Little Fockers.” She’d play the role of an attractive pharmaceutical rep whose looks wreak havoc on male characters in the story.

Paul Weitz is directing the third installment in the Universal and Tribeca Productions franchise. Universal is banking heavily on “Fockers,” one of the studio’s few go-to franchises and an important one given its shaky summer. Production is set to begin in the next few months, with a 2010 release date more than likely.

The picture is expect to pick up where 2004’s “Meet the Fockers” left off, with Stiller’s Gaylord Focker and Teri Polo’s Pamela Byrnes having a child (or children — reports abound that they could be having twins). John Hamburg penned the latest version of the script.

Even if Alba’s role isn’t huge — and with so many other big actors (Stiller, DeNiro, Wilson) already set, it may not be — the move is a shrewd bit of casting for Universal. The franchise needs to rope in young men, and with the movie’s promise of babies and family — not always said demo’s main interest — it could use a Maxim-esque presence.

The WME-repped Alba, incidentally, is set to star in the Robert Rodriguez thriller “Machete” for Sony as well as Garry Marshall’s romantic comedy “Valentine’s Day” for New Line. Both are also movies that could — and need to — bring in the boys. That’s what she does. The focker.

The news that Disney exec Dick Cook was leaving the company was important to the people who work in the studio itself, but the part that got movie fans concerned was Johnny Depp’s suggestion that Cook’s absence might make him less enthusiastic to come back for a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean.

Adding to the comments Depp made to the L.A. Times, our regular tipster is saying that even if he makes the fourth film, he definitely won’t be back for a fifth or sixth. Given that the Pirates franchise was the only live-action property making any money for the studio, they could reach deep in their pockets and keep Depp on for #4, but they’re also preparing to replace Captain Jack with a entirely new character if he refuses a fifth and sixth film.

Also: Johnny Depp is well aware the second two movies sucked. That didn’t stop him from signing on for a fourth film, of course, but based on his comments last week it seems that his faith in Dick Cook was a lot of what was keeping him on board.

What this seems to mean for moviegoers is that there will be a lot of behind-the-scenes negotiations to keep Depp happy for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Strange Tides, but there probably isn’t any amount of money that will convince him to stick around after that. Sounds similar to what Tobey Maguire is planning for Spider-Man 4, and probably the only appropriate thing for a guy as busy as Depp to do. But if they decide to replace Jack Sparrow for the fifth and sixth film, I predict they’d have something resembling a fan mutiny on their hands.

Rumblings at the highest instances of the Mouse House this Friday might end up costing it one of it’s current biggest cash cows, at least if someone over there doesn’t call Johnny Depp right away.

Disney announced during the day that long-time Walt Disney Studios chairman Dick Cook was stepping down effective immediately after 38 years with the organization, a move reportedly prompted by a rough financial year. Although Cook released a statement through the studio where he seems to imply he left on his own, Disney CEO Bob Iger had publicly expressed his disappointments in Cook and the studios’ recent performances back in May during a conference call with media representatives. Thus many interpret the latest reversal as a lay off.

Whatever the reason for his departure, fact remains that Cook was highly popular and appreciated among the industry, something actor Johnny Depp bitterly reminded the organization when talking to the folks of the Los Angeles Times, upon learning the news from Cook himself.

“He’s instantly trustworthy. And you generally don’t meet people at the studios you trust. He’s a rare beast,” Depp said, remembering that all but Cook were disapproving of his plan to portray Jack Sparrow in a very un-Disney manner.

Cook was also the one who got Depp on board a fourth Pirates movie, though the actor apparently only has a “potential deal” in place pending script approval, and has yet signed no dotted line. But now…

“There’s a fissure, a crack in my enthusiasm at the moment,” Depp expressed. “It was all born in that office.” As far as I can tell Depp isn’t know as a “prick“ among his peers, but the guy doesn’t exactly need Pirates as much as the other way around so what’s to stop him from walking out? Have we thus seen the last of Jack Sparrow?

Extra Tidbit: And where does that leave Lone Ranger? In probably no better shape…

Charlize Theron and Sam Worthington finally got their passports.

The Oscar-winning actress and the much-in-demand Aussie star, who is taking over for Tom Cruise, have signed to star in Spyglass Entertainment’s thriller remake “The Tourist.”

Theron, who has long been attached to the project, and Worthington will be the leads in the redo of the 2005 French spy thriller “Anthony Zimmer,” written and directed by Jerome Salle. In the original, a female Interpol agent chooses an everyman American tourist visiting France and dangles him as bait in the hunt for a wanted criminal, who’s also her former lover.

Bharat Nalluri (”Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day”) is directing from a screenplay by Julian Fellowes, Bill Wheeler and Chris McQuarrie.

Canal Plus is co-producing with Spyglass. Filming is scheduled to begin in January.

Cruise had been flirting with the project since last year, before he finally moved on to the untitled James Mangold project at Fox.

Worthington, repped by CAA and Industry Entertainment, last starred in “Terminator Salvation.” He next stars in James Cameron’s “Avatar,” which Fox will release in December, and “Clash of the Titans,” which Warner Bros. will release in March. He also just became attached to star in a remake of the Danish thriller “The Candidate” for Summit.

Theron, who is repped by WME and One Talent Management, next stars in Guillermo Arriaga’s directorial debut, “The Burning Plain,” which hits theaters in September, and the Cormac McCarthy adaptation “The Road,” in theaters in October. She is also producing, and potentially starring in, an adaptation of the Christopher Buckley novel “Florence of Arabia.”

Star Wars actress cast as Jane Foster in Marvel movie.

July 13, 2009 – Marvel Studios announced today that Academy Award nominated actress Natalie Portman has been cast to star as Jane Foster in the studio’s highly anticipated movie Thor. In the early Thor comics, Jane Foster was a nurse who became Thor’s first love. The character will be updated for the feature adaptation. Portman will star opposite Chris Hemsworth who will play Thor and Tom Hiddleston who will play the villain Loki. Kenneth Branagh will direct the film.

Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige will produce Thor. Principal photography for the film is set for early 2010. The film will be released in the US on May 20, 2011 and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

She recently wrapped production on Hesher, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and executive produced by her production company handsomecharlie films, and Don Roos’ Love and Other Impossible Pursuits, which also she executive produced. In 2004, she won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress as well as an Academy Award nomination in the same category for Closer.

The end is near. Muggles everywhere have waited for months (and months … and months …) for “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” and now it’s so close they can feel it. Our own countdown to the film is finishing strong with Wednesday’s interview with Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) and today’s strong feature on the headmaster himself, Michael Gambon, written by our “Potter” specialist Denise Martin:

Michael Gambon has played Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore for five years but he hasn’t been setting a good example for his students when it comes to finishing their homework: The beloved old wizard hasn’t cracked a single one of J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter” novels.

The choice not to read Rowling’s book series, he explains, is deliberate and he points out that costars Ralph Fiennes and Alan Rickman haven’t taken up the books either.

“You’d get upset about all the scenes it’s missing from the book, wouldn‘t you?” Gambon said via phone from New York, where he was promoting the opening this Wednesday of the sixth “Potter” film. “No point in reading the books because you’re playing with [screenwriter] Steve Kloves’ words.”

And Kloves, along with director David Yates, have demanded an intense Dumbledore, who in the fourth film physically shook Harry when the boy wizard’s name wound up in the “Goblet of Fire.” It’s a characterization that isn’t as pronounced in the book — Dumbledore doesn’t yank and jostle his star student, for starters — and it upset many “Potter” fans.

In fact, many riled-up muggles also took to the Internet after the third film to complain that Gambon didn’t have the same kindly grandfather aura that they came to expect in the books and in the first two films when the role was portrayed by the late Richard Harris.

Since joining the Potter cast in the third movie, “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” Gambon has fashioned Dumbledore into a tougher patriarch, an urgent and mysterious force in the midst of impending war. Less cuddly, this Dumbledore is clearly presented as a formidable opponent to Potter’s snake-faced nemesis, Voldemort.

And though Harris (who died in London at age 72 in 2002) had a twinkling gentleness, Gambon’s Dumbledore is a wry observer with crackling wit when it comes to the misadventures of his pupils.

In “Half-Blood Prince,” for instance, Ron Weasley’s girlfriend Lavender Brown goes wailing past the headmaster after she loses her red-headed beau to Hermione Granger. The old wizard, with a smirking tone, muses, “Oh, to be young and to feel love’s keen sting.”

The 68-year-old Irish actor, with an illustrious 40-year stage career, is deeply respected by the young cast members. The franchise’s title star, Daniel Radcliffe, for instance, said he was bringing his full powers to an especially emotional moment in the film. (WARNING: If you haven’t read the books, you’ll be wanting to skip this next paragraph due to a key revelation.)

“Dumbledore dies and I had to do a scene lamenting over his body,” Radcliffe explained to U.K. tabloid The Daily Mirror. “Michael is the most respected actor I have ever worked with so I had to really pull out the stops to convey the emotion. But after the fourth take, I looked down and saw that he had dozed off. I had to prod him to wake up. So much for impressing someone with your skills!”

The teacher may doze, but the students dare not drift off. That’s the message both on-camera and off-camera, according to Gambon, who has made more than five dozen films, among them “The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover,” “Gosford Park” and “Sleepy Hollow.”

“He’s got to be a bit scary,” Gambon said of his Dumbledore. “All headmasters should be a bit scary, shouldn’t they? A top wizard like him would be intimidating. And ultimately, he’s protecting Harry. Essentially, I play myself. A little Irish, a little scary. That’s what I’m like in real life.”

(WARNING: Here comes that same spoiler again, if you haven’t read the books, skip the next three paragraphs.)

Gambon said he wasn’t terribly emotional upon learning of Dumbledore’s death, and he viewed it a bit as an Obi-Wan Kenobi sorta-kinda death. “Wizards can’t die, can they? They’re always a bit there.”

Still, he said his demise is the film’s most powerful scene. Atop Hogwarts’ Astronomy Tower, Dumbledore is confronted by a determined Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton), the Voldemort disciple who has been tasked with killing the headmaster. The youngster’s confidence is shaken when it’s time to do the dark deed. “He goads Draco,” Gambon said of his character. ”He knows he isn‘t going to do it.”

The faithfully rendered moment will be more potent to fans of the books who know that Dumbledore is, in fact, aware of the plot. Disarmed but calm, his beseeching eyes plead with his torn collaborator Severus Snape (Alan Rickman) not to save his life but to end it, unbeknown to Harry. Says Gambon: “He knows what’s what. He invites it. It’s quite good how he dies. I’ve died in quite a few plays and films, I’m always dying, and this one is good.” (In the film, there is one MAJOR departure from the book concerning the orchestration of this climactic scene, but we’ll leave that surprise alone.)

The actor says the enormity of the “Potter” phenomenon hit him again recently at the London premiere of “Half-Blood Prince,” where more than 4,000 kids turned up to get a glimpse of the magical cast. Gambon called it both heartwarming and bittersweet.

“I was really moved by the number of children there. It was raining and everyone was drenched, some of them had been there for hours. You feel responsible for them in a way. All their books and pieces of paper for autographs were all wet, the pens wouldn’t work. It was so sad. It makes you realize how big this thing is.”

The filming of the final Harry Potter movies, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” is underway but Gamon’s contributions aren’t schedule until February. He says that makes it feel as if the end is still far away for him, but he has already begun to reflect on the experience.

“It’s been,” he said, “a real privilege.”

Watching stars Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint grow up has been especially fun. “They’ve become worldly, wise and strong actors. That’s been nice to see. You can say things to them now that you couldn’t say to them then.”

Like what? “Oh I don’t know. I dare not say,” he said, chuckling. Should we assume the worst? “Yes,” he answered with a cryptic bit of sass. How very Dumbledore.

Fifteen years ago, a young-gun filmmaker named Robert Rodriguez was hired to write a new “Predator” film and now, looking back, he can chuckle at the final product he delivered. “It was this crazy, intense off-world story and there was just no way it could be made. The technology wasn’t there yet.”

That was then, but this is now. “Predators,” as it will be called, is happening and Rodriguez is producing. I sat down with him for a pleasant lunch at the Four Seasons Hotel and, as our sons sat together munching French fries and drawing pictures, he explained his plans for the summer 2010 sci-fi release.

“It’s the story from that script I had written way back then,” Rodriguez said. “They had hired me to write a ‘Predator’ story while I was waiting to do ‘Desperado’ back in 1994. It was crazy, this thing I came up with. So then fast-forward to now and, like, six months ago, they found the script and called me up. ‘Hey, we want to redo this franchise and we found your old script. This is where we should have gone with the series! We want to move forward.’ And that’s what we’re doing.”

“And, like I said, back when I wrote it, the technology wasn’t there yet. I didn’t have to worry about who would direct it or anything because it was a script that just couldn’t be used.”

Rodriguez has proven himself not only as a distinct voice in genre films (”Sin City,” “From Dusk Till Dawn,” “Planet Terror“) but as a master of making big-looking hit films on relatively small budgets. Consider the three “Spy Kids” films, which are loaded with dazzle, action and gizmos; they pulled in a collective $465 million in worldwide gross but not one of them had a budget of more than $38 million.

Rodriguez, a writer/producer/director, is the modern prototype of the nimble, maverick filmmaker. Like his upcoming bizarro family movie “Shorts” (which, by the way, I’ve seen, and it’s great — more on that to come here at Hero Complex), “Predators” will be shot in his home state of Texas on a lean budget and so far removed from Hollywood that it is doesn’t get run through the often bruising machinery of the studio. “Predators” is for 20th Century Fox and “Shorts“ is being distributed by Warner Bros., but “Predators” will be clearly defined by Rodriguez and his personal style.

“They actually like that,” the 41-year-old San Antonio native said. “You’re making it less expensive then they could ever make it here. Its so much leaner. and they get a movie that they can sell as a big movie, they make money off of it, especially since it didn’t cost much at all. I get to keep it locked down creatively and, really, the studio is happy with that. It’s almost like they get protected from themselves. They know that when some things get taken through the machine they end up overspending and making the movie worse. The movie’s not allowed to breathe. That was the case with the ‘Predator’ movie. Just go make it down there in your system. We don’t know how you do it down there but somehow you make these movies very creatively and at a budget.”

The 1987 film “Predator” was directed by John McTiernan and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers and Jesse Ventura as an elite commando team on a rescue mission in the jungles of Guatemala, where they find themselves hunted by an alien. That alien, designed by the effects team led by the late, great Stan Winston, became one of the most memorable creatures in sci-fi film history and the movie became an enduring fan-favorite that ages quite well. There was a 1990 sequel and two-crossovers with the “Alien” franchise (2004 and 2007) with varied ambitions and mixed results, but Rodriguez said the success of the first movie is still a powerful draw.

“No matter how many ‘Jaws’ movies they make, people never forget how great the first one is. You can always come back to it, people love it and they want to love it. ‘Predator’ is like that too. It’s a great premise, a great character and fans get excited when they think of what can be done with it.”

What’s the plot of this new revival? “The story is on the Predator planet and, well, it’s just crazy.

It takes place off-world which is great, and there’s a lot of them out there.” And what about the prey? “Let’s just say if there were no predators, the humans in this story would probably kill each other.”

He said he won’t have to stray far from his ranch outside Austin to create the settings he needs.

“It’ll be a mix. A lot of location sets and some green scene. There’s a lot of different places in Texas I have in mind, and we have a great rebate thing there now, only 60% has to be shot in Texas. We’re scouting for locations now. You can find some alien landscapes in Texas for sure. And with the right augmentation, you can make anywhere look like anywhere now.”

Rodriguez will be at International Comic-Con in San Diego this month to promote “Shorts” (his panel is July 24 at 1:45 p.m.), and if you’re there, you’ll want to check it out for sure. I talked to him quite a bit about his other upcoming work (”Machete,” “Sin City 2,” a fourth “Spy Kids” film, etc.) and you”ll find all that in the weeks to come by checking back here at Hero Complex.

Warner Bros. is about to decide who will wear the super-powered ring in “Green Lantern,” the studio’s latest DC Comics tentpole movie.

Along with director Martin Campbell and producers Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti, Warners has spent the past five months searching for the actor to play Hal Jordan, the hot-shot Air Force pilot who is chosen by a dying alien to be his successor in an intergalactic police force known as the Green Lanterns.

This week, the race narrowed to Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds and Justin Timberlake. The clock is ticking on the decision as the holding deal the studio had on the actors expired Monday, meaning the three are now free to accept other offers.

The studio ordered up two rounds of screen tests with Cooper, Reynolds and Timberlake. Other actors in the early mix included Michael Fassbender, Henry Cavill and Jared Leto.

Apparently, De Line, Campbell and the studio each had a different favorite among the three finalists, making it difficult to come to a consensus.

Another issue impacting the casting process is the rising budget. “Lantern” is a full-blown space epic that is expected to cost between $150 million and $200 million, if not more. Warners would like to have the production costs at a reasonable level before proceeding.

The studio has scheduled the movie for a December 2010 opening.

Cooper, repped by CAA and Thruline, is feeling a lot of love from Warners as he stars in the studio’s surprise comedy hit, “The Hangover,” which has grossed $210 million domestically.

UTA-repped Reynolds recently starred in a comic book movie, Fox’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” where he played “the merc with a mouth” Deadpool. The character is now being developed for a spinoff to which Reynolds is attached. The actor is also in theaters with Disney’s romantic comedy “The Proposal.”

Timberlake, repped by CAA and Rick Yorn, has been steadily building an acting resume, appearing in such dramas as “Alpha Dog” and “Black Snake Moan” while also showcasing his comedy chops with appearances on “Saturday Night Live.”

Johnny Depp “almost religiously” avoids watching himself on screen, the actor has revealed.

In an interview with Radio 4’s Front Row, the Sweeney Todd star said his children had watched more of his own films than he had.

“I prefer to walk away with the experience as opposed to walking away with the product,” he explained.

Depp is in London to promote new film Public Enemies, in which he plays the gangster John Dillinger.

Character

Depp said: “I’ve not seen the film, so I don’t know what it looks like.”

He added: “I like to portray a character, inhabit a character and build character, but I don’t want to watch the end result necessarily, because it becomes about money then and I’d rather not think about that.

“My children have seen more films of mine than I have. They’ve seen all of them within reason – many more than I have.

He added: “I have no plans to see them – any of them.”

Depp also said he does not even check his on-screen appearance during the shooting of a film.

“I wouldn’t dare watch a playback or rushes or anything like that,” he said.
